  • Our Plantura Box Tree Moth Trap is a pheromone trap for the early detection of box tree moth infestations. These pesky moths have been wreaking havoc and devouring our beloved box plants for many years now. Unfortunately, box tree moths like to hide inside the plants, so they are tricky to find. We have developed our Box Tree Moth Trap to save you having to check your box tree for moths every single day: it monitors box tree moth activity early and reliably. If you find moths in the trap, a caterpillar infestation is just around the corner.

You can either hang the trap or place it (on a stick) near your box tree plants. Our Plantura Box Tree Moth Trap can cover an area of up to 180m2. If you want to stop the moths in their tracks immediately, fill the body of the trap with approximately 5cm of soapy water.

No, our trap for box tree moths is 100% insecticide-free and therefore not harmful to humans, pets or other beneficial insects. The pheromones in the trap only attract male box tree moths.

How does Plantura Box Tree Moth Trap work?
Our trap attracts male box tree moths with the help of pheromones. If you find moths in the trap or notice them buzzing around it, a caterpillar infestation is to be expected in the next 1 to 2 weeks. So pheromone traps such as our Plantura Box Tree Moth Trap help you detect infestations early - they are only an indirect pest control method. For best results, replace the pheromone dispensers in the trap every 4 to 6 weeks.
How can I get rid of box tree moths effectively?
As already mentioned, our pheromone trap helps detect infestations at an early stage and only attracts male box tree moths. The females, however, can continue to lay their eggs. Therefore, new caterpillars will keep hatching. To actively combat the caterpillars, we recommend applying XenTari® - an effective remedy against the voracious box tree caterpillars. It is a biological insecticide that is applied to affected box trees and stops the caterpillars from feeding immediately after application.
Robust & reusable: easy to assemble and refill
To assemble the trap, screw the funnel onto the main body of the trap and attach the roof to the funnel. Take one of the dispensers out of the protective foil and place it in the pheromone container. Put the safety cap onto the container and attach the container to the roof of the trap. Replace the dispenser every 4 to 6 weeks. When you order our Box Tree Moth Trap, you will receive 6 dispensers. You can also order our Box Tree Moth Trap Refill, so you can keep using the trap over and over again.

      They work

I have 6 small intected box plants (about 80cm tall) - 2 of which were completely bare. I have been away for 1 week and have found 40 dead male moths in the one trap - Excellent. My box are all coming back to life. BUT I have also hand killed over 200 caterpillars and pupae and sprayed the plants with the bacteria that kill them. So my message is hit them on all fronts. It is time consuming but satisfying. It is also good to see the plants coming back to life even though one looked dead.

      It works!

Yes, it really does - as long as you remember to replace the pheromone capsule every 6 weeks.
