    • The biggest enemy for owners of shady gardens is moss. Nevertheless, even if your garden is very shady, you can still create a vibrant and lush green lawn - by using special grass seed for the shade, such as our Plantura Shady Lawn Seed. It contains shade-tolerant and fast-germinating grasses that are resistant against weeds and moss.

    Sow our Shady Lawn Seed between April and October. The ideal time for sowing grass seeds is in late spring (mid-April to May) and in early autumn (September to October). It is important that the ground is warm enough - the temperature of the soil should be above 12°C, day and night, so that the seeds can sprout.

    With our 2kg box of shady grass seeds you can cover up to 80m2 - the equivalent of 8 parking spaces.

    What is Plantura Shady Lawn Seed made of?
    Our premium lawn seed mix includes high-quality grass types and varieties such as Lolium perenne for fast germination, Festuca rubra var. rubra for healthy growth, and Poa pratensis for a dense and durable lawn. Plantura Shady Lawn Seed exclusively contains RSM (German standard) certified grass varieties and is made from 100% natural ingredients.
    How do the shade-tolerant grass seeds help to create a lawn without weeds and moss?
    Most types of lawn grass require a lot of sunlight and do not tolerate shade very well. For this reason, conventional seed mixtures often do not produce the desired results: The seeds don’t sprout well and the lawn becomes patchy, making space for weeds and moss. Shade-resistant grass seeds like the ones included in our mixture are therefore the basis for thick and healthy grass that grows in the shade.
    How do I sow the shady lawn seeds?
    It is best to distribute lawn seed with a spreader. Alternatively, you can apply the seeds by hand. Apply the shade-tolerant grass seeds in a criss-cross pattern, by sowing half of the seed, about 12.5g/m2, from left to right and the other half from top to bottom. Cover the seed with a thin layer of soil, such as our peat-reduced Plantura Organic Lawn Compost, for instance. This compost is more fertile than conventional garden compost and helps to create the ideal growing conditions for young lawn grass. After that, gently tread the lawn seed into the ground and make sure to water the freshly sown seeds daily!
